This Privacy Policy explains how Video Player (“the app”) handles your information. The app is developed by AB Apps (“we”, “us”). By using the app you agree to this policy. Please also read our Terms of Use.
Short version: your videos, music, subtitles, playlists, watch history and Vault are handled on your device and are never uploaded to us. We have no accounts and no servers that receive your media. To stay free, the app shows ads from Google AdMob (never during playback, and never to Premium subscribers). It uses Google Firebase to measure app usage and report crashes, and Google Play to sell Premium. Those services receive device identifiers and usage information, never your videos or their names.
Everything the app does with your files happens locally on your phone or tablet:
Music/Video Player. We do not upload, copy off the device, store on a server, sell or share your videos, music, file names, file paths, thumbnails, subtitles, playlists, watch history, search history, stream links or Vault contents. When you share a file, it goes to the app you choose, under that app’s own privacy policy.
When you play a link (http, https, HLS, DASH or RTSP), or open a video link from another app, the app connects directly to the server at that address. That server receives your IP address and standard request information under its own policy. We do not see or log the links you play. The app remembers your 20 most recent stream links on your device so you can replay them, and you can clear them at any time.
Casting uses Google Cast (part of Google Play services) to find Cast devices on your Wi-Fi network. To play a video from your phone on a TV, the app runs a temporary server on your phone that is reachable only on your local network and serves only the video you cast, under a random link. The video goes straight from your phone to your TV, not through us. Google Cast may collect information about Cast sessions under Google’s Privacy Policy.
The app uses the following third-party services. Each receives only the information listed, and each is governed by its own privacy policy.
| Service | Purpose | Information involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics for Firebase | Understanding which features are used so we can improve the app | App instance ID, Advertising ID (for app install and usage measurement), screens viewed, features used, session length, app version, device model, OS, language, country and approximate location derived from IP address. We never send video or file names, file paths, stream links, search text or Vault information. |
| Google AdMob (with Google’s User Messaging Platform for consent) | Showing ads, measuring them and preventing ad fraud | Advertising ID, IP address (used for approximate location), device model, operating system, language, app version, ad interactions. Ads may be personalized only where you have consented or where consent is not required. |
| Firebase Remote Config | Turning features and ad placements on or off without an app update | App instance ID, app version, country and language. |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Finding and fixing crashes | Crash and error reports (stack traces), device model, OS version, free memory and disk, app version, an installation identifier, and the app events that led up to the crash. |
| Google Play Billing | Selling and verifying Premium subscriptions | Google processes your payment. We receive only the purchase token, product, plan and subscription status. We never see your card or payment details. |
| Google Cast | Finding Cast devices and controlling playback on your TV | Handled by Google Play services on your device, as described in section 2. |
Information sent to these services is encrypted in transit. Google may process it on servers outside your country, including in the United States.
READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED) — Android 13 and aboveLets the app list and play the videos on your device. On Android 14 and above you can choose to allow only selected videos. We read file names, sizes, durations, dates and folders to build your library, and read a file’s contents only to play, convert or move it at your request.
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) — Android 12 and belowUsed the same way on older Android versions. Write access is used only on Android 10 and below, to rename and delete files when you ask. On Android 11 and above, Android shows its own confirmation before the app changes or deletes a file it did not create.
Keeps your video or audio playing in the background and shows the playback controls notification.
Used to play network streams and links, cast to a TV over your Wi-Fi, send analytics and crash reports, and process purchases. Your media files are never sent to us.
AD_ID)Used by Google AdMob to show and measure ads, and by Google Analytics for Firebase for usage measurement, as described in sections 3 and 4.
BILLING)Lets you buy a Premium subscription through Google Play.
You can decline or revoke permissions in Settings → Apps → Video Player → Permissions. Features that need a permission will stop working, and revoking a permission never deletes your files.
To work quickly and offline, the app keeps the following in its private storage on your device:
We never receive this data. If Android backup is turned on for your Google account, Android may back up the app’s settings, history and playlists to your Google account, under Google’s policies, so they can be restored on a new phone. Your Vault videos and PIN are always excluded. You can clear watch history in the app under Me → Clear watch history. All app data is deleted when you clear the app’s data or uninstall it.
Important: uninstalling the app or clearing its data permanently deletes the videos in your Vault. Move them out of the Vault first if you want to keep them.
We do not sell your personal information for money. The use of advertising identifiers for personalized ads may count as “sharing” or “targeted advertising” under some US state laws. You can opt out using Me → Ad privacy choices in the app or by deleting your Advertising ID, as described in section 4.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or the CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or move your personal information, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent. We do not hold your name, email or media, and the identifiers above are random IDs. That means:
Our legal basis for processing (for GDPR) is our legitimate interest in keeping the app working, secure and improving (for analytics and crash reporting), and performing our contract with you (for Premium purchases). You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us and we will help delete it.
Your media never leaves your device unless you share, stream or cast it yourself. Data the app stores locally sits in its private storage, which Android protects from other apps. The Vault PIN prevents casual access inside the app; it is not a replacement for your phone’s own screen lock. Data sent to the services above is encrypted in transit. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.
If we change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date and publish the new version at this address. If a change materially affects how your information is handled, we will tell you in the app or on the Google Play listing.
